From Cancun (Mexico – Yucatan) we took a flight to Miami. We checked into Grand Beach Hotel.
The Native American inhabitants settled in Miami on the Miami River. Spanish people were the first Europeans to land in Miami around 1500 AD and after they established a mission on the River north bank. The native Americans were targeted for conversion to Christianity, but failed and a majority of the tribe later left disease-stricken with small pox and other illnesses died soon. Miami became a part of the United States in 1842 after a long war.
The City of Miami, is the seat of Miami-Dade County, and the cultural, economic and financial center of South Florida in the United States. The city covers an area of about 56 square miles between the Everglades to the west and Biscayne Bay to the east. Miami is a major center and leader in finance, commerce, culture, media, entertainment, the arts, and international trade. The metro area is by far the largest urban economy in Florida and the 12th largest in the United States. Miami is also a major tourism hub for international visitors, ranking second in the country after New York.
