Kota Kinabalu

SABAH – EAST MALAYSIA.
Capital city: KOTA KINABALU.

My first visit to Kota Kinabalu (East Malaysia) was in March 1983 from Kuala Lumpur. I have been visiting West Malaysia since 1977 on business trips. I travelled regularly all cities in Malaysia. In March 1983 while in Kuala Lumpur, a friend of mine was travelling to Kota Kinabalu for his business. As I never had been to this place, I joined with him and stayed at Kota Kinabalu in Jesselton Hotel. In 1983 there was no much development in Kota Kinabalu, there were only a few hotels to stay. Years following, I made more trips to Kota Kinabalu, but there was no business. However, from 1989 onwards I started getting business for the Power transmission hardware from Electrical contractors for end user Sabah Electricity Board. This supply is still going on and I had the opportunity of visiting KK (as we call this city) many times in last 30 years. You can notice from the photos I clicked during my travel, the electrical overhead line installed where many products are supplied by me.

Kota Kinabalu is the charming capital city of Sabah State of Malaysia, which is part of East Malaysia. Distinct from Peninsular Malaysia which houses the capital city of Kuala Lumpur, East Malaysia has a completely different feel to it, and many people come here to take in a more rural side of the country, with lush green jungles and towering mountain peaks, awesome countryside, beautiful scene everywhere.

Kota Kinabalu City Mosque

Kota Kinabalu City Mosque is the largest mosque in the city and is also said to be the most beautiful. The building is located on stilts above a shimmering lagoon which makes it look as if it is floating on the water and its size means that it can accommodate some 12,000 worshippers at one time.

Mount Kinabalu

Probably the most famous attraction in Sabah is Mount Kinabalu, which is a sacred mountin located on the outskirts of the Kota Kinabalu. This mountain is part of the famous Crocker Mountain Range and stands at some 13000 feet above sea level. The mountain has a diverse eco-system and this is the place to come if you want to see some of the gorgeous flora and fauna in Malaysia. The mountain lies in the middle of the winder Kinabalu National Park which is a UNESCO world heritage. A Trek to the summit of the mountain gives you some amazing views over the rest of Sabah.
