INDORE

Indore, located on the Malwa plateau of Madhya Pradesh, is a tourist’s delight. A land blessed in location as well as man-made attractions, Indore aptly enjoys the title of being called the heart of Madhya Pradesh. We had a quick visit to the following most famous Palaces before we left for other places.

LAL BAGH PALACE

During the days of the British Raj, Indore State was ruled by the Maratha Holkar dynasty, until they acceded to the Union of India. Apart from this Indore is also known for its architectural splendor. The tales of the glorious past are narrated by these splendid historical monuments and cast a magical spell on the visitors. Rani AhilyaBaiHolkar was a great architectural patron and spent a lot of money on the construction of many temples across the nation. The queen is taken in great regard by the people and as a tribute; her statue was built in the center of the city, near Rajwada

Resided by the rulers of the Holkar dynasty, the LalBagh Palace is class and grandeur personified. The palace is spread on a sprawling area of 28 acres and reflects the taste of the rulers of the Holkardynasty.An example of architectural magnificence, this palace once contained one of the best rose gardens in the country.

The interiors of this palace will make you forget that you are in India, owing to the myriad mixture of Italian marble columns, grand chandeliers, rich Persian carpets, flying nymphs on the ceiling, Belgium stained glass windows, Greek mythological reliefs, Italian style wall paintings, stuffed leopards, and tigers etc. All in all, _LalBagh Palace is a must visit for the tourists.

RAJWADA PALACE

Rajwada Palace is one of the beautiful attractions in the city of Indore in Madhya Pradesh. Also known as the Holkar Palace, the palace was built around 2 centuries ago by the Holkars belonging to the Maratha dynasty. The palace is one of the oldest structures of Indore. This palatial structure is built using Mughal, Maratha and French styles of architecture. One of the interesting features of the palace is that from the Southern side the structure looks like a Mughal monument, and European from the eastern side. The Darbal Hall and the Rani Ahilya throne are designed in French style.
