Cardiff Castle has a history of more than 2000 years. Built around AD 50- 55, the Roman Fort was once a part of the construction.
The strategic site was for easy access to the Sea port. Archaeological excavations indicate that the remains of the Roman wall can be seen even today. Even though the Cardiff Castle was built mostly by Norman, there is still Roman style in it. During World War II, the castle’s tunnels were used as air-raid shelters from German bombings. In 1947 the Ownership of the Castle was transferred to the Lord Mayor of Cardiff. The castle along with its parkland was presented to the people of Cardiff for its safe look after.
