In the year AD 75, the Romans built a fort, where Cardiff Castle now, and around AD 375 Romans abandoned the site, it remained unoccupied until the Norman conquest. The Norman built a castle within the Roman walls and a small town grew up around it. In 1183 there was a revolt and by 1404 the town was destroyed due to rebellion against English domination. In 1536 English stamped on Cardiff and brought stability. Cardiff became the biggest city of Wales and in 1955, it was proclaimed as the first ever capital of Wales.
